Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the championship lead from Piastri by one point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his team opted for a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he spun at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda slid over the curbs on exit before sliding over the escape zone, and was lucky to avoid just a minor contact of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the practice, turning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner leading to the final corner on to the main straight.
The veteran ended the session in P19, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's car third fastest, 0.619secs behind Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
